Charlotte may be in the market for backcourt help, and a familiar name has surfaced. According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Hornets have expressed interest in veteran guard Dennis Schroder, whose situation in Cleveland has grown uncertain.
The opening traces back to the Cavaliers’ bigger ambitions. Cleveland has LeBron James atop its wish list and has kept close tabs on Jonathan Kuminga, and to create the flexibility to chase that kind of talent, the front office is weighing which contracts it can move. Scotto reported that Schroder and Max Strus have both come up as potential trade candidates as the Cavs work the market.
That is where Charlotte enters. Scotto’s sources tied the Hornets to interest in Schroder, and the connection is not random. Charlotte executive Jeff Peterson is said to remain a fan of the guard from their shared time together in Atlanta, the kind of prior relationship that tends to turn a name on a list into a real pursuit.
Schroder would bring a well-traveled résumé. The German guard has suited up for 11 NBA franchises, and he opened last season with the Sacramento Kings before a trade sent him to Cleveland. His international pedigree is the headline, though: he was named MVP of the 2023 World Cup and again at EuroBasket in 2025, cementing his status as the engine of Germany’s national team.
