Panthers Urged To Trade For Former No. 3 Pick Solomon Thomas

Carolina faces a defensive crisis with key injuries. Heavy.com urges a trade for Solomon Thomas to plug the holes before the Lions game.

The Carolina Panthers’ defensive depth just hit rock bottom. It feels like every week a new name lands on the injured reserve list. This Wednesday, the roster got even thinner when both starting cornerbacks were moved to IR. Losing Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson at the same time is a disaster for any coach, let alone one trying to build a culture from scratch.

The situation in the secondary is grim. Canales described the quad injury to Horn as significant. He even admitted, “There’s no replacing Jaycee Horn.” It is hard to win games when your best defensive players are stuck in the training room. Now, the team has to rely on Will Lee III and Akayleb Evans to hold down the outside spots.

A Mounting Injury List

The list of players unavailable is getting way too long. Beyond the corners, guard Damien Lewis is out with an elbow injury and receiver Xavier Legette is dealing with a knee issue. Jalen Coker and Monroe Freeling are also listed as questionable. It is impossible to find any rhythm when the lineup changes every single game.

The depth chart is a graveyard of names right now. Running back Jonathon Brooks, lineman Brady Christensen, receiver Chris Brazzell, and pass rusher Nic Scourton are all already on IR. Even tackles Taylor Moton and Ikem Ekwonu haven’t seen the field this year. This isn’t just bad luck; it is a total breakdown of the defensive unit.

Pressure On the Offense

With the defense struggling, the burden falls on Bryce Young. With three games played, 939 passing yards now make him the NFL leader. The offense has to carry the load because the defense simply cannot stop anyone. According to Yahoo Sports, Jonathan Jones reported that Canales is trying to keep the team’s mood up by staying consistent with his vision.

The plan for Sunday night involves “mixing it the right way” while using reserves, per reports. It sounds good in a press conference, but the Lions are not a group that gives out free wins. The Panthers are 1-2 after losing to Cleveland, and they need to avoid a 1-3 start.

The Lions Bring the Heat

The matchup is even scarier because of the talent in Detroit. Mike Jackson expects to miss six to eight weeks following groin surgery. He told the team’s website, “It’s their time to shine, so they just got to go show the world who it is.” That is a lot of pressure for young players facing a high-powered offense.

The Lions offense is clicking, with Jared Goff looking efficient. For the first time in 11 years, Charlotte hosts a “Sunday Night Football” match this Sunday. Jones states that the Lions will feel no pity for the Panthers. If the secondary fails to step up, this primetime showcase could turn into a blowout.
